Behind Sama is a diverse team working closely with the community every day.

With different backgrounds and experiences, they share a common goal: to create a safe, welcoming space where people feel supported and connected.

Brittany

Director

Brittany is the Founder and Director of Sama and has been working with refugee communities in Greece for a decade. She has gained extensive experience in this field and is a strong advocate for solidarity. Prior to Sama, she worked in Malakasa camp for 6 years with Refugym; the community-led sports program she also founded.

Dariush

Co-Founder

Having lived in Malakasa Camp himself, Dariush has a lived understanding of the daily challenges asylum seekers face, and how to best support our community members. From Iran, Dariush has a Masters degree in psychology. He oversees the educational program, coordinates volunteers and is a skilled handyman.

Dora

Community Coordinator

Dora has been living and volunteering in Greece since 2020. She has been involved with various projects such as a social kitchen and asylum support team. Dora now runs our Asylum Information Sessions at Sama, empowering our community members to learn about their rights in Greece.

Maria

Teacher

Maria is a local of Malakasa who long wanted to support the refugee community in her home village. Restricted access to the camps had made this impossible - until Sama was created! Maria teaches Greek and fosters intercultural sharing through dance and singing. She also supports our volunteer team using her expertise as a Doula.

Leena

Arabic Interpreter

From Damascus, Syria, Leena lives in Malakasa camp with her three children. She uses her language skills to advocate for her community and is a sought-after professional, interpreting for multiple organisations. She helps bridge communication between residents and organisations, making it easier for people to access the support and information they need.
